Early Life and Education
Born and raised in the northwest of England, I have always had a keen interest in health and fitness from a young age. This enthusiasm led me to pursue higher education at Liverpool John Morres University, where I earned in Nursing, a diploma, a degree and a masters. During my time at university, I was actively involved in various modules and projects and undertakings that honed in not only in professional writing but increased my knowledge, skills and expertise that gave me the confidence to progress further.
Professional Career
After graduating, I embarked on my professional journey at Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital, where I held the position of a Registered General Cardio-Respiratory Nurse within the medical field for 6 years. My responsibilities included the fundamentals of nursing care. My dedication and proficiency gained me the additional roles of cardiac rehabilitation and student mentor link.
With a hunger for an expert role, my professional journey took me to a specialist position within Knowsley Community Respiratory Team where for 7 years, I upheld the role of Community Respiratory Nurse Practitioner. My role included that of a lone worker with the provision of Early Supported Discharge from hospitals and home visits within the community.
Embarking on a new challenge, yearning for promotion, my professional journey continued further with an expert role within Sefton Community Respiratory Team where I undertook the position of Advanced Respiratory Nurse Practitioner. I have continued in this position for 7 years. My role and responsibilities included the provision of Respiratory 2-hour response prevention of hospital admission, Respiratory Clinics and Respiratory Early Supported Discharge. For the last 2 years within the team, I have undertaken the new challenge of Respiratory Team Leader within the team where I continue to date.
As an expert within the respiratory nursing field for several years, by chance I stumbled upon an opportunity to become a care expert within the legal field. For the last 3 years, this has allowed me to broaden my professional skills, providing impartial information via expert opinions allowing me to continue with duty of care and welfare matters.
Key Projects and Achievements
Throughout my career, I have continued my professional development completing several modules at level 5, level 6 and level 7 modules to achieve:
- ›MSc Nursing
- ›Non-Medical Prescriber
- ›BSc Nursing
- ›DipHE Nursing
Leadership and Management
Throughout my professional nursing career leadership and management has always been at the forefront. However, as mentioned above, for the last 2 years within my professional position I have accomplished the role of Team Leader within the team where I also continue as an Advanced Respiratory Nurse Practitioner.
Leading a team of 24 (Advanced Respiratory Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Respiratory Physiotherapists, Respiratory Nurse Practitioners, Respiratory Physiotherapists, an Exercise Physiologist and Healthcare Assistants). This has demanded leadership and management skills on a higher level which I have welcomed. This continues to be a vital learning experience assisting in nurturing not only the current generation but the next generation of professionals.
My leadership style is enhanced by a variety of key leadership traits: professionalism, effective communication, self-awareness, emotional intelligence decision making, empathy, delegation and integrity which I feel has earned admiration and respect from colleagues.
Personal Life
Work life balance has remained at the forefront of my being. Fitness has been a journey I have continued since my school days. This is paramount not only for my physical health but also my mental health. My personal life also allows me to enjoy the ‘outdoors’ in the form of travelling with a tentbox to various locations around the UK and Europe. I also enjoy dog walking, reading, listening to music, theatres and concerts.
My personal and professional journey is an example of dedication, hard work, and success, professional excellence and integrity. My contributions to Respiratory Nursing has ultimately prepared me for the role of care expert which I feel has been a natural progression.
