For the last two decades Emily Tew has been assisting patients, clients and residents with their activities of daily living. Her passion for delivering care was realised back in secondary school when her work experience was undertaken at Abbeyfield Residential Home in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Whilst attending Blackburn College and the University of Cumbria in Lancaster, she continued to work in the same care home on a part-time basis with the ambition of continuing to deliver care, but with greater knowledge and expertise.
Over the last eight years she has developed experience in critical care nursing, and is a dedicated and highly skilled registered nurse specialising in intensive care and trauma management. Her passion for patient advocacy, rapid decision-making, and compassionate care has made her a trusted professional in high-pressure medical environments.
Since earning her nursing registration in 2011, she developed a strong foundation in Evidence-Based Practice and completed the academic degree course, which is a useful skill when compiling evidence-based reports to a high standard. In addition, she has thoroughly enjoyed bringing out the best in students and junior staff by sharing her knowledge and enhancing their confidence. She obtained her Mentorship qualification in 2014. She later obtained her Critical Care Certification, demonstrating her expertise in managing critically ill patients. She also actively participated in hospital quality improvement initiatives, focusing on patient safety and enhanced recovery protocols.
Emily now has the role of a Critical Care Nurse who works flexibly across a variety of trusts, and she provides care to intubated and ventilated patients whilst gaining further understanding of how different intensive care units operate. This enables her to develop knowledge within other areas of expertise and it allows her to showcase her abilities and competence.
Throughout her career, Emily has delivered care to highest standard with compassion and diligence. Her warm nature transfers well when working as a Care Expert as she is able to establish rapport quickly and she maintains mutual trust and understanding during her assessments. Her clinical knowledge enables her to empathise with the client’s journey and she can provide suitable recommendations based on her vast experience and by using evidence forensically sourced through interpretation of the medical records.
Beyond clinical practice, Emily has enjoyed an active life and has undertaken hobbies such as skiing, rock climbing and mountain walking. Whilst undertaking her nurse training, she became an enthusiastic member of the Territorial Army and she qualified in the role of a Combat Medical Technician so that she could deliver aid to front-line soldiers. Her time with the Territorial Army strengthened her ability to remain focused under pressure whilst increasing her stamina and endurance which enabled her to see tasks through to the end. She embraces challenges with enthusiasm.
